The Earring Challenge Journal: Ten Pairs, Ten Stories. Apatite Water Cast

Molten Silver, Captured Water, and Apatite

For the second pair in my challenge, I turned to a process I love for its unpredictability: water casting.

Molten silver dropped into water takes on fluid, organic shapes — little sculptures created in an instant. For these earrings, I used those castings as settings to cradle oval rose-cut apatite gemstones.

The result is jewellery that feels alive: shimmering blue stones sitting in forms that look like they’ve been shaped by water itself.

This design felt like a turning point in the challenge — a reminder to let go of control and trust the process.
